1314 NE 45th - Ginger Teriyaki

2/1/10 - shared a spicy chicken plate and a pork teriyaki + gyoza combo plate. Spicy chicken was excellent: tasty sauce and nicely crispy chicken. Pork teriyaki was very good, although sauce may be a bit too sweet for some people; gyoza were fine, nothing special. Side salad was better than most other teriyaki places, and two large scoops of rice on each plate were appreciated. Service was friendly, and food came out in a reasonable amount of time.

Overall, my favorite teriyaki place on the Ave so far (above Tokyo Garden and Nasai).

4207 - Than Brothers

2/1/10 - Shortest time from entering the restaurant to food in front of you. Usually one of my favorite pho places, but today the broth was bland. Maybe I am just used to the cap hill location. This place can get very crowded at peak hours. The cream puff is always a pleasant finish. They only have pho.

4247 - Flowers

1/29/10 - We came here for dinner at 7:00 on a Friday, and seating was available for our large party, which was nice. Everything else was just ok: the steak sandwich (#6), the fries, the salad. Service was pretty inattentive, and I didn't care for the dim lighting. Decent drink prices, maybe this place would be better for happy hour.

4213 - Pho Tran

1/27/10 - I tend to go to all 3 of the other pho places over Pho Tran, but it seemed to be the only one still open tonight at 9:40. My large was skimpy on the noodles and beef, the eye round was overcooked, and the bowl wasn't particularly full. Also no hot sauce beyond hot cock, and no little dipping dishes. Still, the broth seemed above average for the Ave, and they gave me a ton of basil. If I get motivated, one day I'll get takeout from all 4 and compare the broths. As it is, this one deserves to be in the mix as much as any of the others.

1/28/10 (dlev) - This is one of the few places with banh mi on the Ave. The pork is not amazing, but it's very solid and the price is under $5.

4543 - Thai Tom

1/22/10 - Tiny and crowded. Open kitchen is neat, but seat next to the stove was uncomfortably warm. Chicken was cooked to perfection, noodles and taste were above-average Thai. Four stars here spicier than elsewhere. Recent health code violations?

4139 - Aladdin Gyrocery

1/20/10 - Lamb and beef gyro is solid. If you are very hungry it might not be enough food.
I tried the eggplant once and probably won't try it again. The eggplant was dominated by everything else in the wrap and the skin was stringy.

4124 - Ichiro Teriyaki

1/21/10 - Spicy chicken yakisoba was flavorless. It wasn't even spicy. Absolutely zero flavor in the whole dish.
